Windows 11 version 23H2 aka Gallium appears as Sun Valley 3 (SV3) in an official video

Microsoft is expected to release the annual Windows 11 update known as version 22h2 or Sun Valley 2 update, also known as the “Copper” update, later this year. Now, references to the Windows 11 update for the year 2023, known as Version 23H2 update aka Gallium aka Sun Valley 3 (SV3), have started to appear.

First, why Windows 11 version 23H2 may be known as Gallium and not copper as many claim. Windows 10/11 version 21H2 was codenamed “Cobalt”, 22H1 as Nickel, while version 22H2 was codenamed “Copper”. Thus, it can be noticed that Microsoft gives a code name to the semi-annual updates as elements of the periodic table.

So Windows 10/11 version 23H1 will be codenamed “Zinc” and 23H2 will be called “Gallium” internally. These codenames represent the internal testing and development statuses of the Windows operating system, but the Windows 11 update is annual in nature. So, while Microsoft will release Windows 11 version 22H2 aka Copper this year, Windows 11 version 23H2 aka Gallium will be released in 2023.

Now, references to Windows 11 version 23H2, also known as Sun Valley 3 update, have started to appear. An official video revealed a PowerPoint file titled “Next Steps of SV3 Refined Investments”. The “SV3” is short for Sun Valley 3.

So, Microsoft may have already planned some new features and changes as part of Windows 11 version 23H2 Gallium aka Sun Valley 3 update coming in 2023.

In 2022, the Windows 11 update slated for release this year will be version 22H2. According to a new report, this update will bring back much-desired and currently missing taskbar functionality. It can also bring system-wide dark mode and many other new features and UI changes.

The Windows 11 version 22H2 update is referred to as the Sun Valley 2 update internally. It can follow Windows 11 21H2 release date schedule. Learn more about new features and release date of Windows 11 version 22H2 by clicking here.
