These limited edition dbrand genuine leather skins for Surface Pro devices are exceptional
When it comes to skins to protect or personalize your gear, few other brands stand out like dbrand. The company is now offering a special limited edition genuine leather hide, which is available in three different shades.
We recently received samples for the Surface Pro 8 and quite frankly if you’re ok with putting âdead cowâ on your 2-in-1, you’ll love what dbrand has done here.
The skin is simple. There are three colorways, including black, brown, and beige, with a price tag of $ 50. It’s more expensive than typical hides, but these are thicker and made from “100% Genuine Full Grain Vegetable Tanned Cowhide”, which justifies the cost.
Currently you can grab the skin for Surface Pro 8, X, 7, 6, 2017 and Surface Pro 4. There are also skins for Xbox Series X. You can also get the skins for your smartphones including iPhone, Samsung , OnePlus, Google, etc.
Dbrand goes on to note that these skins aren’t like the typical vinyl ones the company sells, providing some installation tips and what to expect:
After installation, take a few minutes to thoroughly scrub the edges with the included color-matched microfiber cloth. This process will soften the edge of the leather and make it look like it blends into your device. Due to the thickness of the leather, without smoothing it, you may find an unpleasant sharp edging on the skin. This sharp edge will disappear entirely and permanently – just rub with the microfiber.
Scratches and marks are normal. Over time, as the leather accumulates the natural oils, these scratches will disappear and form a worn patina. Attached are some pictures to give you an idea of ââwhat this before / after will look like. You can start the process by rubbing the scratches with your thumb. Although we plan to release a “Leather Care Kit” in the near future, the natural oils from your hand are the key to this patina process.
By putting them on our Surface Pro 8, you can see how thick the skins are, although it’s not something you notice once it’s installed. The texture and smoothness is simply unmatched compared to vinyl as it has a warmer feel.
The installation is super simple. Just line up the skin with the camera and microphone holes on the top and the Surface logo on the bottom. Dbrand’s use of 3M ensures these will adhere very well after it settles on the device, but if you need to remove and fix it, that’s not a problem either. Indeed, I was able to swap the skins on the fly during the photoshoot without a hitch.
If you have a black Surface device, my advice is to go with black or brown leather, while the tan may look best on platinum laptops. Of course, the movement of the baller is to divide the skin like in the photo above, where one half is black and the other half is brown.
Overall these are, forgive the pun, killer skins. The idea that these skins age and have a patina like boots or jeans is also a nice bonus.
We’re hearing that dbrand has plans for more devices as well, including Surface Duo 2, which we can’t wait to try as it’s a made-for-the-other combo.
Remember that you have less than 20 hours to order them before they leave, as this is a limited edition. Also, please don’t buy them for your vegan friends unless you really hate them.
