Microsoft Surface 2021 event: rumors, news and announcements
September 22 officially marks the first day of fall, and with it gadget season. As in previous years, Microsoft is jumping into the mix with its upcoming Surface event, where we expect the company to announce a slew of products during its live show Wednesday at 11 a.m. ET / 8 a.m. PT.
Microsoft has recently gained a lot of momentum with the imminent launch of Windows 11. And with the launch of the new operating system on October 5th, it is only natural to present it with new devices.
Reports and leaks seem to indicate that we could see updates to Microsoft’s Surface Pro, Surface Book, Surface Go, and Surface Duo lines. Many details of the Surface Pro 8 have already been leaked, including its new 11th Gen Intel processor, 120Hz display, and move to Thunderbolt ports. While less early information has surfaced about the Book and Go updates, the former is slated for a significant design overhaul while the latter will most likely see its changes take place on the inside.
Beyond Windows 11 devices, Microsoft is expected to announce a successor to the dual-screen Surface Duo. Leaks for the Duo 2 began earlier in the summer, promising improved internal specs and a new triple-camera setup in addition to a few smaller design tweaks. The big questions around the Duo 2 are about software and support, as the original Duo’s stagnation – it’s still stuck on Android 10 while Android 12 is around the corner – and sluggish sales have it. landed in the liquidation sections of many retailers.
Whether Microsoft is really proving its Android strengths with the Duo 2 or throwing surprises with its new flagships for Windows 11, we’ll be watching live and keeping you updated here as new products are announced.
