Microsoft Flight Simulator – Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport Review (Drzewiecki Design)
Third-party developer Drzewiecki Design recently released Moscow Sheremetyevo Alexander S. Pushkin International Airport (UUEE) in Russia for Microsoft Flight Simulator.
As the busiest airport in Russia and the fifth in Europe, UUEE is certainly relevant if you want to simulate air or cargo operations in the country.
It is currently available on Orbx Direct for around $ 23, which means you can use the handy Orbx Central client to set up the airport and keep it up to date.

By the way, if you want to make your approaches and departures more scenic, Drzewiecki Design himself has created a great Moscow City Pack for Microsoft Flight Simulator, which works great with the airport.
Published approaches, SIDs and STARs are all available, and descent lines and ILS locators are well calibrated. The same goes for PAPI lights if you prefer visual approaches.
The taxiways are correctly labeled and faithful to the maps, so navigating the airport is not a problem. The only (relatively small) problem is the way some ramps are named at the software level. Visually, they have the correct label, but functionally, some are partially wrongly numbered. For example, the default ATC will tell you to park at gate B115, when the correct numbering would be 115A. This isn’t a huge problem considering the painted indications on the ground are correct, but it would be worth fixing.
I’ve also noticed that AI planes often have issues navigating the more complex intersections of runways and taxiways, but that’s probably a problem on the Microsoft Flight Simulator side and not the landscape’s fault.
All ground services are available and functional, including the tankers that developers so often overlook.
The orthoimaging used for the airport base is adequate in resolution and detail, and runways, aprons and taxiways are generally well textured. One downside is that the concrete tile pattern is a bit too repetitive for my liking, but you won’t notice it during normal operations.
On the other hand, colors and weathering are usually point-in-time, especially since concrete is relatively new in most areas. The marks are basically perfect, neither too faded nor too shiny, blending well with the surrounding concrete.
One of the coolest details of Sheremetyevo is that the newer runway (06L / 24R) is considerably far from the rest of the airport, which means you’ll have to drive a few minutes through the countryside and a bridge to and from this one. . Incidentally, the bridge is solid and well modeled so you won’t fall through it as happens in several other Microsoft Flight Simulator airports (I really, really, hate when it happens).
Judging from the visual sources I could find at the actual airport, 06L’s aiming area is relatively clean, while 24R already shows the usual rubber stains from repeated landings. Both aiming areas are clean in this landscape, which is a little problem.
This is perhaps not surprising given the level of quality that Drzewiecki Design provides, but the terminals are absolutely fantastic. Almost all of the buildings feature richly detailed interiors. Only Terminal F has its interiors simulated with parallax shaders, but that’s good because its windows are much smaller than the others.
The other terminals, including the two iconic “flying saucers” of Terminals B and C, are meticulously designed with their complete interiors on display. Not only do they look good, but the developer even cleverly used parallax shaders to add an extra level of depth to the stores inside. The overall effect is very pleasant. The detail work is absolutely fantastic and can certainly be considered the industry leader, even thanks to the magnificent skylights and realistic structural beams and trusses.
Of course, the exteriors are no less beautiful and combine masterful modeling with excellent texture and a skillful use of physics-based rendering for a very realistic look. Equally impressive are the custom animated catwalks and pretty much represent the (many) cherries on this delicious cake. Only the passenger models are a bit crude, but this is likely to save resources and barely noticeable from the aprons.
Impressively, the city side parts of the terminals are also very well detailed, with appropriate signage, vehicles, parking equipment, etc. One thing I would like to see improved is the dirt side to the ground, as this is only ortho bare imagery, which doesn’t do the area justice. Custom and higher resolution textures at least at terminal entrances would have worked much better.
There are a lot more additional buildings inside and outside the border fence (and yes, this airport is fully fenced, which is not really common in addons of this size for Microsoft Flight Simulator) , including fire stations, hotels, industrial buildings, warehouses, and offices. All are excellent with the exception of the satellite fire station near runway 06L, part of which is floating. This is probably due to a small oversight.
Another highlight is certainly the station with its lively trains. It’s beautiful and just as detailed as the terminals, right down to the 3D modeled runways.
There are a lot of airport vehicles everywhere and a decent amount of congestion on the aprons. All have the appropriate liveries and markings, greatly contributing to the overall atmosphere.
Speaking of clutter, I have the impression that this time Drzewiecki Design has gone a little too far with the static plane. There are a hundred of them all over the airport. While I understand Sheremetyevo is an extremely busy hub, I would say this can be overkill, especially if you are flying online on networks like VATSIM, where you can easily be assigned a ramp already occupied by a static airliner. .
Unfortunately, they can’t be disabled on Orbx, but I’ve heard that you can do that with the less convenient installer on other vendors like Simmarket. Since Orbx Central provides the user interface for the options, it would have been recommended that this be available from all vendors. In fact, I would have included an additional option with only a number of static planes for flavor purposes in addition to the all-or-nothing options.
That being said, we have to recognize that the quality of Drzewiecki Design’s static planes is industry leading, so this is definitely a plus. In addition to the many Aeroflot Sukhoi Superjet 100 that you won’t find in many parts of the world, there are quite a few exotic visitors, including an Air Koryo Ilyushin Il-76, an Ilyushin Il-114 turboprop, and an Antonov An-72. .
There are also vintage planes on static display, including the iconic Il-62 monument near Terminal B and more. There is certainly a lot to explore in this landscape.
The airport reacts well to the weather. The texture work looks great in the rain and the snow cover is almost perfect. While it should be a no-brainer in Russia, there are so many badly designed snow cover add-ons that I really appreciate when it’s good. In addition, snow does not accumulate inside the terminals, which is a detail much overlooked by most airport developers.
The lighting is fantastic in all areas with the only small issue being some of those parasitic emissive globes over runways 06L / 24R and its parallel taxiway. As usual, it’s not something we can blame for this add-on. This is a known issue in Microsoft Flight Simulator that Asobo has not yet resolved.
Now let’s talk about performance: this is an extremely large and complex airport, which adds a ton of detail to the default (frankly terrible and massively obsolete) landscape, so a drop in framerate is to be expected.
On my PC (RTX 3070, Ryzen 9 3900x, 32GB RAM) with 1440p resolution and Ultra detailed settings I’m losing around 12-13 FPS compared to the default landscape in most areas of the airport.
That being said, when looking directly at Terminals B and C, performance drops drastically below 20 FPS mostly with no apparent cause. It doesn’t affect the rest of the airport, which is odd considering the rest of the terminals are just as detailed. Apparently the developer is aware of this and is investigating the cause of this. Hope this will be fixed soon.
Ultimately, Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Alexander S. Pushkin International Airport is another feat of Drzewiecki Design’s great craftsmanship and one of the best available for Microsoft Flight Simulator.
Despite the few small flaws and the framerate issue, it is impossible not to recognize that we are in the presence of a beautiful airport, extremely detailed and spectacularly modeled, which is easy to recommend unless you are already at the bottom of the road. hardware requirements. .
