How to add an additional taskbar to Windows 11

The taskbar is an integral part of Windows 11 and has a long history in earlier versions of the operating system. The bar includes familiar features such as the Start menu, search tool, file explorer, and widget panel buttons. You can also add shortcuts for your favorite software to the taskbar.

However, the default Windows 11 taskbar can only include a limited number of shortcuts. If you add more shortcuts to it, there will also be less space available for the minimized windows. As such, adding another taskbar to Windows 11 would be a great way to give yourself more space. And you can do it with Linkbar.

Linkbar is a free application that allows you to add a new taskbar to Windows 11, 10, 8.1, 7 and Vista. You can even configure more than one new taskbar with it. Then you can add many other software shortcuts to your new taskbar instead of the default one.

To start:

  1. First, open the link bar download page on Softpedia.
  2. Select the Download now option there to save the ZIP archive of Linkbar.
  3. Next, click on the File Explorer taskbar button, which has a folder icon.
  4. Open the folder that contains the Linkbar ZIP file.
  5. Double-click on the Linkbar ZIP archive to open it.
  6. Click it Extract all option in file explorer.

  7. press the Browse in the Extract Compressed (Zipped) Folders window and choose an extraction location.
  8. Select the View checked out files when done checkbox, which will save you from having to manually open the extracted folder.

Once done, an extracted folder will open. There is no installer for Linkbar, so you don’t need to run an installation wizard.

You can now add a new taskbar to Windows 11 with Linkbar. To do this, double-click Linkbar64 in the folder extracted from Linkbar to open the window below. The other Linkbar EXE in the folder is for 32-bit system architecture.

Select the Only for me radio button. Click the dots button to select a working directory for the taskbar. It is better to select your user folder for this. Then press the To create button to add a new empty taskbar like in the snapshot just below.

Remember that you can add multiple taskbars when you have configured the first one. Just double click on Linkbar64 again and then again to add a second or third bar for even more shortcut space. When you have added multiple taskbars, they stack as shown directly below.

How to add shortcuts to the taskbar

You can now add many shortcuts to your new taskbar. To do this, right-click on the taskbar of the link bar and select New> Shortcut. To select Browse on the window that opens to choose the software you want to add.

Alternatively, you can directly drag and drop desktop shortcuts onto the link bar taskbar. To do this, left click on a desktop shortcut and hold down the left mouse button. Then drag the shortcut to the new taskbar and release the left mouse button.

To remove a taskbar item from the link bar, right-click a shortcut and select To delete. To select To delete the link bar on the Link bar submenu if you want to clear the entire taskbar. You can also change the shortcut names by selecting the Rename option in the context menu.

Once you’ve added any shortcuts, you can then check out Linkbar’s additional customization options. Right-click an area of ​​the link bar taskbar and select Settings. The link bar settings window includes settings for the position, appearance, shortcuts, separators, and customization of the taskbar auto-hide.

You can change the taskbar position of the link bar via the Panel tab. Click it Position On the screen drop-down menu there. Then select a To the left, To the right, High, Where Low option.

If you want to change the color of the taskbar, click the button Fund Color check box. Choose a color from the palette by clicking on the points button. You will need to select Apply for all changes to take effect.
